La coppia di grandissimi realizzatori dei Suns non ha fatto mancare il proprio apporto offensivo neppure nella prima sfida contro i Nuggets (29 punti per Durant, 27 per Booker) ma i loro punti sono serviti soltanto a infrangere un record playoff detenuto (da 20 anni) da Kobe Bryant e Shaquille O'Neal ma non a evitare la sconfitta di Phoenix in gara-1

LO SHOW DI KOBE&SHAQ NEL 2003 | La difesa del 3° titolo vinto in 3 anni (2000, 2001 e 2002) per i Lakers di Kobe Bryant e Shaquille O'Neal inizia con un 1° turno nei playoff 2003 contro Minnesota. Serie vinta in sei gare (4-2) e nelle prime cinque sia Kobe che Shaq non scendono mai sotto i 25 punti a testa: Bryant firma 39, 27, 30, 32 e ancora 32 nelle prime cinque sfide della serie, Shaq replica con 32, 27, 28, 34 e 27 per offrire un "one-two punch" da record. RECORD MA NON VITTORIA | Eppure, neanche la doppia prestazione di Booker e Durant è servita a evitare il ko in gara-1 a Denver: il resto dei Suns ha segnato soltanto 21 canestri (84 quelli totali di squadra, contro i 100 dei Nuggets), c'è stata qualche palla persa di troppo (16 di squadra, ma ben 7 commesse proprio da Durant) e il tiro da tre ha premiato i padroni di casa, che hanno chiuso con 16/37 dall'arco (oltre il 43%) contro il misero 7/23 dei Suns (poco sopra il 30%)
