Per il 6° anno consecutivo, ESPN ha rinnovato la tradizione del cosiddetto "straw poll", una simulazione di voto per il premio di MVP che coinvolge 100 giornalisti che probabilmente voteranno anche per il premio finale al termine della stagione e che utilizza lo stesso sistema di punti del premio ufficiale (10 punti per il 1° posto, 7 per il 2°, 5 per il 3°, 3 per il 4° e uno per il 5°).
